Gochiso-sama, autumn taste in Japan.

Like British guys who have their favorite local pub in their town, many Japanese people also have their “Ikitsuke,” favorite bars or restaurants, which we often visit in our neighbors. Many of Ikitsuke are usually Izakaya, a traditional Japanese bar and dining, which offers good meals and drinks at reasonable prices, similar to Spanish bars with tapas and wines. The Izakaya always provides us with excellent meals with a lot of seasonable ingredients.

So, autumn is the best season to enjoy Japanese food. The saury pike from the northern Pacific Ocean coming down to Japan is rich in tasty fat, making its sashimi very delicious. Grilled eggplant also gives me a slightly sweet taste, and its gentle texture helps me release stress at work.

A glass of Masumi, one of my favorite sake brands, refreshes my mind. It’s not too sweet, but the dry taste and fruity scent go down my throat smoothly.

Japanese sake, Masumi.

The climax of my dinner is sushi, which is 100 yen (67 US cents) per piece!! All three pieces are so delicious that I cannot believe it’s an incredibly reasonable price.

Fish-bone miso soup, Ara-jiru, is also quite tasty. Even though excellent sake and delicious dishes almost filled my stomach, I finished it in less than 30 seconds.

Gochiso-sama!!
It means “Thank you for the delicious meals and excellent service” in Japanese.

The entrance of my favorite Izakaya in my town

It must be difficult for tourists from overseas to visit Izakaya because many of them don’t have English menus. If you want to enjoy a couple of hours in the evening at an Izakaya in the Shinjuku or Shibuya area, I will help you order, eat, and enjoy talking with locals and restaurant staff. Only the Japanese menu occupies the wall at my favorite Izakaya.
