Ueno Sakuragi Atari is a cozy but fantastic place.

Ueno Sakuragi Atari is a small shopping and drinking complex comprising three renovated old Japanese houses built in 1938. It retains the 1930s vibes and taste, but the shops and bars offer guests unique and attractive goods and services for all generations.

First, I want to take you to a craft beer bar, Yanaka Beerhall. It reminded me of my old days since it looked pretty much like the house I lived in when I was five. It also brought me nostalgic images, voices, and noises from the street where I was playing with my friends.

All the beer and ale are brewed at its brewery in Gunma prefecture, about 200 km north of the Tokyo area, and served as original products of Yanaka Beerhall on taps. It was so fresh that I had a relieving break on a sunny and hot Sunday afternoon. I sat at the bar counter, watching skilled barmen pour beers rhythmically. I ordered pale ale, which was tasty, and a fresh aroma went up through my nose, seeming like a comfortable breeze blowing in my brain.

The bar also sells beer and ale in plastic glass for to-go. So, you can walk around in the Ueno Sakuragi Atari while sipping your beer.

Another shop I want to recommend is Oshiolive, an olive and salt seller. It sells olive oil flavored with wasabi (green label) or ginger (orange label). Wasabi olive oil is unique. A little stimulus, a spicy smell, makes my tired brain awake and refreshes me later. You can try tasting all the olive oils at the shop.

Ueno Sakuragi Atari is located in the Ueno area. It is within walking distance of the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno. After you immerse yourself in the traditional and cultural exhibitions at the museum, Ueno Sakuragi Atari may give you a refreshing break on the way back to your hotel.

Looks like a charming neighborhood! I wonder if the olive oil is from 小豆島 or imported from Italy.

Hi, Sara. Thank you for your comment. Yes, some of the olive oil is made in Shodoshima island, and others are made in Italy. Wasabi olive oil uses Shodoshima one. The atmosphere in the area is so nice that it’s worth walking around.
