Congratulations!! Yokohama got 2nd prize in the Top Three Night View Contest 2024.

On December 17, the Night View Tourism Convention Bureau announced the ranking of the best night views in Japan. Kitakyushu took the first prize, followed by Yokohama, and Nagasaki placed third. I am pleased that my city, Yokohama, is regarded as an excellent city for night views. I recommend that all tourists in Tokyo visit Yokohama, just south of Tokyo, before sunset, enjoy the fantastic night view of the port town, and then proceed to Yokohama Chinatown to savor a delicious authentic Chinese dinner with their loved ones. It takes only 26 minutes on the JR Tokaido Line from Tokyo to Yokohama or 28 minutes from Shibuya on the Toyoko Line.

The award was established in 2015 by the bureau as the brand “The New Top Three Night Views” to promote night tourism. The bureau asked the certificated 6,610 Night View reviewers to choose their best three sites every three years.

Yokohama City made a big leap by jumping to second place from sixth. The city has satisfied the Night View judges with new initiatives, such as Yokohama Sparkling Twilight. Also, the judges praised the city’s extraordinary efforts to use its various heritage sites, like the port, seaside, and factories, to promote the night view. In particular, they commented that the city has kept updating its night views as it has developed the city landscapes, such as the successful city development of the Minato Mirai Plan.
I am confident that Mt. Fuji from the Yokohama Port also adds extraordinary value to the city. Of the top three cities, only Yokohama has Mt. Fuji as its background in the evening view.

Another amazing night view in Yokohama is the neon in Chinatown, particularly from December to February when the town is celebrating the Lunar New Year’s festival. Bright red and orange lanterns are hung over the street, which makes a fantastic contrast with the Yokohama Port’s night view.

Kitakyushu City marked the second victory in a row since taking first place last time. The city triggered the boom in factory night views and now boasts eleven sites, eleven certified as Japan Night View Heritage sites, which scores the most numbers in Japan, including Sarakurayama, Takatoyama, Adachi Park, Mojiko Retro, and more. In recent years, Kitakushu has not only developed new night view resources, such as the photogenic spot at Takatoyama Park, the Sarakurayama illuminations, and the Murasaki River Spectacle launched last month but has also held various promotions, which night view tour specialists highly praised. The city has a wealth of night-view resources and is substantial.

Nagasaki City was first ranked as one of the “New Top Three Night Views in the World” when the New Top Three Night View was established in 2015. Nagasaki has been the only city that has maintained its place within the top three rankings since then. The city has been lit with various illuminations, creating fantastic views from Mt. Inasa and Mt. Nabekanmuri and historical buildings such as Oura Cathedral and Nakamachi Kyokai Church. Furthermore, the area around Nagasaki Station dramatically changed as the Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen started its operation. In line with the changes in the city’s large-scale developments, expectations for the highly topical night view resources, such as the observation deck on the 19th floor of City Hall and Nagasaki Stadium City, have also been evaluated by night view tour specialists.

Anyway, my city, Yokohama, is also now proud of the most beautiful night view of the Keihin Industrial Zone. Please visit my previous post about Yokohama Night Cruise experience.
