If you have time until your flight departs from Haneda Airport, I recommend you visit the shopping mall, Atre, at the JR Kawasaki station, which is 15 minutes away by train. There is a liquor shop, Furumaiya, where you can taste six brands of sake, 100 yen per 30 ml. It’s quite reasonable.
You can find a sake vending machine on the left side of the wall. Place a small cup (about 30 ml) on the stage under the machine’s tap, put a 100-yen coin in the slot, push the button, and the sake will follow down to your cup. Please see the video below.
The brand names are in Japanese, and it’s hard to choose. But I suggest you pick all the sake on the wall, which cost only 600 yen in total (about USD 4.00 at Today’s rate). That’s all. Easy and cheap!
Today, I tasted two brands from Ishikawa pref., where the big earthquake hit on January 1, 2024. I heard some sake breweries have no choice but to stop their operations due to severe damage caused by the earthquake. So, drinking Ishikawa’s sake is my support to them, and it also helps me release stress from work, right?
You can order small Japanese tapas or buy snacks at the shop and enjoy them with sake. I ordered a marinated octopus with wasabi (a Japanese herb) and scooped it with shrimp chips. It was so nice and went very well with sake.
The shop also sells bottles of sake and wraps them for you to bring onto the airplane cabin. So, taste them, and bring your favorite one to your loved one at your country.
