Oden, it’s a traditional Japanese homemade meal. So yummy!

Although cherry blossom season was almost around the corner, it was still chilly, so I was in the mood to eat something warm on the way home. I stopped in an Oden restaurant, Ninoya, on the west side of Shinjuku station. Oden is a traditional homemade meal in the Tokyo area that contains many ingredients, such as Japanese radish, Nerimono (fish cakes), egg, etc., simmered in Japanese broth lightly seasoned with soy sauce. It’s my favorite winter dish!

I started with a glass of shochu and water with Shonan Gold, a local citrus in Kanagawa. Then I ordered Japanese radish and Kon-nyaku (a chewy jelly-like food made from a certain type of yam called konjac; believe me, it’s yummy).

Then I took Atuage, a deep-fried tofu, and then an oyster, which is limited and served only in winter.

The food and drink are so nice that I want to take my guests there if they stay at hotels in the Shinjuku area.
