Ramen Paradise! Ramen Museum in Yokohama

Are you a ramen lover? If so, why not visit the Ramen Museum in Yokohama, a ramen heaven where you can enjoy a variety of ramen from all over Japan at once? This ramen theme park offers at least six different styles of ramen. The stores are not fixed and are replaced regularly, but the timing is not fixed either. As of February 2024, 50 ramen shops have been serving unique and exquisite ramen since their founding 20 years ago. Now, let me introduce some of the ramen I have eaten.

The first ramen shop is “Ryukyu Shinmen Tondou”, which is from Okinawa, the southern island of Japan. Thin noodles are entangled in a clear salt soup made from pork bones, bonito flakes, dried sardines, and kelp. It is a perfect fusion of the traditional Japanese fish-based broth and the pork-based broth influenced by Chinese cuisine. It was a moment of relief from the stress of work on weekdays.

The next is the ramen in a deep soup made of high-quality kelp in Hokkaido, flavored with roasted soy sauce, served at Miraku, which comes from the northern island of Rishiri in Hokkaido. Slightly thick noodles and deep soy sauce soup offer a traditional taste that reminds me of nostalgic boys’ days. It is “The Ramen” to me. The shop is far from Tokyo, which takes eight hours by flight and ferry boat, so it is almost impossible for many people to taste it. That is the reason why the Ramen Museum was established. The museum owner said he wanted ramen lovers to taste excellent local ramen without spending 8 hours on a flight and ship. I really like his concept!

The last ramen is pork and chicken-based soup from the renowned ramen shop Komurasaki in Kumamoto, Kyushu Island. It features roasted minced garlic on top that adds an appetizing accent to the ramen. I always feel energy from garlic and deep and creamy soup.

Another attraction of the museum is its atmosphere. It features the 1960s Japanese lifestyle, and you may find it to be the origin of the Japanese style. It is a mixture of traditional life and the transforming lifestyle toward modern society.

You may be afraid you cannot eat three bowls of ramen at a time. Don’t worry; the three bowls of ramen I ate were served in half-size portions between 650 and 750 yen each. Please enjoy it!

Please check the location and operation hours on its official website. It is near Shin-Yokohama station on the Shinkansen line. It may be a good idea to drop off the Shinkansen for your lunch on the way to Kyoto from Tokyo.
